Welcome to the Community Health advising page. This major can lead to many exciting jobs in the “Health” field. We will be glad to work with you and assist you with resources, dates & deadlines, and your educational and career plans. If you are a student with the last name starting with A-K, Carol Firkins will be your advisor. Chris Cosat is the advisor for students L-Z. Between the two advisors we have many years of experience and many resources to assist you. We are here to help you from the time you enter the University of Illinois until you are set in a career path after graduation.

Our offices are in Huff Hall. Carol can be reached at and Chris at If you need to call us, the Community Health office phone number is 217-333-2307.

The advisors will post their walk-in hours online and on their doors each week (Carol: 126 Huff and Chris: 125 Huff). Only current Community Health students can schedule an appointment to meet with their respective advisor; all students interested in transferring into Community Health from their current major should plan on attending a College of AHS ICT Informational Meeting ( or plan on visiting the advisor assigned to their part of the alphabet during scheduled walk-in hours. Each student who is a major in Community Health must schedule a pre-registration appointment each semester. An email reminder will be sent out around the 8th week of the semester, although you may schedule an appointment after the 10th day of classes. This is highly recommended so you can have your questions answered before your registration date.

Community Health is a great degree for students who aspire to work in any aspect of health. Our graduates find employment and careers in health education, health planning and administration and rehabilitation studies. A large percentage of our graduates continue their education through graduate school and/or pre-professional health programs. Each student will have the opportunity to complete an internship to apply concepts and knowledge from the classroom environment to real world experiences.
