KCH Student Receives Outstanding Graduate Student Award for Diversity & Social Justice Education
Ellen Ritter, a doctoral student under the direction of Dr. David Strauser, has been named the campus recipient of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Diversity & Social Justice Education Awards Outstanding Graduate Student 2016. The award is described “for an unsung undergraduate student, graduate student, and registered student organization that has sought to address marginalization, oppression, and/or privilege as it relates to the campus community." Ellen was nominated and received this award because of her outstanding efforts directed at helping develop and carry out the initiation of the Disability Ally Program (DAP) at the Disability Resources Educational Services (DRES), developing and implementing an RSO to provide UIUC students, staff and faculty access to meditation, and volunteering at the Danville Correctional Facility through the Education Justice Project: Mindfulness Discussion Group. Ellen is not only an excellent student but an outstanding individual who lives out her strong convictions daily through complementary action.
Congratulations, Ellen, on this outstanding recognition!
